Why Is Dental Pulp Important?

While Medford endodontics is not that common, every part of the tooth is important and has a purpose. The enamel acts as the tooth’s initial line of defense and armor. The dentin provides structure and framework. For optimal stability, the root sinks into the jawbone, and the gumline forms a seal to protect everything. Do you know how important dental pulp is? If not, please read on.

Significance of Dental Pulp

Integrity of the Structure

Although dental pulp ranks low among the structures that make the tooth strong and rigid, it is not without merit. When it is removed with a root canal treatment, the tooth can become brittle and susceptible to cracking.

After root canals, dental crowns are frequently added to provide extra protection. Such treatment will also address any minor cracks or fissures.

Nerves

The dental pulp is the tooth’s nerve center. It is also where the majority of the discomfort originates. It has an enormous nerve network, which is likely why toothaches are so painful and debilitating.

Moreover, the dental pulp is teeming with tiny, closely packed blood vessels that originate in the jaw, travel through the pulp, and into the dentin. Unfortunately, once the enamel has worn away, this is how tooth decay and bacteria enter the pulp.

Tooth Development

The pulp also houses all the tooth’s living tissue and serves as the “heart” for the rest of the tooth. Likewise, it provides the blood and other resources with the benefits needed to develop and grow teeth, which is why it is so vital in children.
